What made Impressionism? Bold and bright colors, truth to nature, scenes of leisure, and engagement with the modern world are all hallmarks of this iconic and revolutionary moment in art history. Artists like Claude Monet, August Renoir, Camille Pissarro and Edgar Degas transformed painting by challenging traditional artistic conventions. But what led up to this moment, and what can we learn from examining artists that came before? This four-session course with returning Roundtable instructor Matthew Morgan examines the key influences and artists that shaped Impressionism, including John Constable, Camille Corot, Francois Millet, and Edouard Manet. We'll explore how rapid industrialization and the development of outdoor painting techniques contributed to this groundbreaking movement. You'll develop a deeper understanding of Impressionism's precursors and the various forces that sparked this transformative period in art history.
